Inner Circumference vs. Inner Diameter
Inner circumference is the distance around the inside of the ring. Inner diameter is the straight distance across the inside, through the center. For a circular opening, circumference is roughly diameter × π — for example, 17.2 mm inner diameter works out to about 54 mm inner circumference. Use the seller's own chart for the final call, since manufacturing tolerance and rounding still matter.

Measuring at Home: Two Methods
Best method — measure a ring that already fits. Choose one that fits the exact finger and hand where the new ring will be worn, lay it flat, and measure straight across the inside opening through the center — not the metal band. Repeat once, then compare to the seller's chart. Left and right fingers can differ in size, so measure the actual destination finger.
Backup method — paper or string. Wrap a narrow strip of paper or non-stretch string around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, lay it flat, and measure in millimeters. Repeat a few times, and check the same loop can still pass over the knuckle. Skip elastic thread or thick yarn — both distort the reading.
Measure when your hands feel normal, not right after a long commute in the heat or right after exercise — finger size shifts with temperature and swelling. If the fit matters, measure at two different times of day and go with the more consistent number.
Why Band Width Changes the Fit
A wide band covers more skin and can feel tighter than a narrow band with the same internal measurement — stacked rings create a similar effect. Use a similarly wide ring as your reference whenever you can.
